It’s disappointing that the author doesn’t write explicitly who the Anohito is for the sake of pleasing the readers. But the line “… and she got up from her chair and happily ran into his outstretched arms.”, does the run to “outstretched arms” always refers to Albert? In the manga, Candy always runs to his “outstretched arms”.

Hi Grace! Nice to meet you. :-). In my opinion, I think not revealing who Candy’s husband is actually disappointed many fans on both sides. Though I agree with you, Grace, that in the manga Candy always ran to Albert for a hug whenever she was upset. Yet, I believe he opened his arms wide only once. That is at the end of the manga when she was running towards him from a distance. To me, that symbolizes he was ready to receive her. I’ll explain more in my new post.

    Ms Puddle,

I just managed to read this series of Love and Gratitude. You know, in your first paragraph, you explained ” .. Candy was abruptly brought back to the present (in her 30s) when her husband with no name (simply referred to as Anohito, which means “that person”) ..”

since you ( intentionally or not) said ” her husband with no name “, then an idea came across my mind. Suddenly i thought “wait a minute … anohito, that man … no name … albert’s amnesiac period, … WAA’s three figures to candy ( as the prince, as vagabond albert, as uncle william) …”. Can we say this anohito name is also a clue from mizuki? :). Terry is terry, terrance graham-grandchester. Meanwhile albert? How many names candy used to address albert in CCFS? Many! Can we safely say that whichever name candy used, it doesn’t matter for her because he’s everything for her, because he had many roles in her life.

    • Ms Puddle says:

Wow!! Reeka! You really want to look for clues, don’t you? You were right that Candy called Albert by many different names lol! This is also inspired by Daddy Long Legs. *WINK*

But anohito doesn’t necessarily mean a man I think. “Hito” simply means person. 😉 Also, I believe Mizuki said she hadn’t used his name because she “allowed” her readers to imagine whatever they like (something along that line).

To me, there are more than just a few concrete “evidence” in CCFS pointing to Albert as Anohito. I’ll talk more soon.

Thanks for reading this long series, dear!!

      • Reeka says:

Hahahaha i just can’t help! Told you that i blame mizuki on making my mind busy.

Don’t get me wrong, i have no doubts that candy ended up with WAA in CFFS. It’s just that puzzle is my weakness. ^^

        • Ms Puddle says:

No worries! You have great insights my dear! After all, you’re not the only one who is intrigued 😉

  3. Aria says:

I think the reason why Mizuki decided not to mention Candy’s husband’s name at the end was because she didn’t want to disappoint both Albert’s and Terry’s fans. In other word, she tried to please everybody which it didn’t work though. I am still not very happy with the ending of the original and Candy Candy Final Story. To make it worst, CCFS is only in Japanese. ARGHHHH sob sob 🙁

However, LNF from Ms. Puddle has been comforting my sadness over this 🙂

  4. CKati says:

Yes, it is quite clear from all of these spoilers, but also from the manga and even the end of the anime series, that ultimately Albert is the one for Candy.

  5. Beatrice says:

Her very words state that Candy is in love with Albert. I don’t understand why Terry fans keep insisting that she hasn’t let go of Terry.

    • Ms Puddle says:

Well… I will talk more in part 4 about this 😉

    • CKati says:

      Dear Beatrice,

in addition to my comments above and in respons to your comment, I would like to say that I can understand the Terry-fans. It’s hard to let go of Terry as the great love of Candy’s live, especially if you’ve only seen the anime :-). But I guess by now most CC fans have also read the manga and some of the spoilers available here and there, and still cannot let go of Terry.
He has just made an unforgettable impression 😉

      • Ms Puddle says:

Yes, Terry in the anime is indeed the focus, and I won’t blame the fans who have not read (or refused to read) the manga. It’s just very different, especially the cozy (romantic) scenes between Albert and Candy in the manga are either absent or rushed in the anime adaptation. Very unfortunate.

  6. Venice says:

Have you observe Candy had no treasure from Terry? She had a picture of Anthony, a badge from Albert, but nothing from Terry? Except for a memory of him?

  7. sadie says:

an epilogue is either for ending or twist, and it depends on the writer’s point of view. there are some hearsay that Albert stays with Candy and i agree with them.

  8. Guest says:

Now that you mention it, there was a couple even thanked earthquake for coming into their lives and without it, they’d never have met.

  9. Monique says:

I’ve been fan of some books with epilogues and I do believe Albert and Candy did end up together as husband and wife. I think what the author did was write her main character who reminisced good memories about their past in the beginning of the story, just like the other movies. The author doesn’t need to write specifically that they did stay as couple, but what the character had mentioned that belonged to the Andrews should be enough proof that she had already been married to Albert. I agree that it was disappointing that Candy never even mentioned the name of the man (who outstretched his arms), but how she described him, the same way as she did to her prince of the hill made me believe it was Albert. All I can remember is only Albert or Anthony offers gentle open arms to Candy, but never Terry. I checked the anime repeatedly or even in manga, there was never an outstretch arms to Candy, so I just know the ‘person’ in the dark is not Terry.

  10. Kim says:

When Candy said, “I am — very grateful to my parents who have abandoned me at the Pony’s Home. Thanks to that, I could meet you!”, That could be mean she already had fallen for Albert. If she had stayed with her parents somewhere in America, there would be no way for her to meet Albert. We know that the she fell over Terry, but she never used those same words, nor even thank Uncle William for sending her to London that led her to meet Terry. Just Albert. Obviously…fate really meant for Candy and Albert to encounter until the end.

    • Ms Puddle says:

Thank you for your comment! I’ll talk more about Candy’s feelings for Albert soon, but she did mention something about fate bringing her to London (Terry) due to Anthony’s accident… 😉
