Signs that show Albert was in love with Candy

While women can be very verbal in expressing themselves, men may be quite the opposite. When a man is in love, rather than expressing his feelings in words, he probably shows it through his actions or behavior.

To me, Albert was like that. As I mentioned in an earlier post, he shielded Candy from a lion’s attack without second thought, which indicates that he put her life before his. What’s more important than one’s own life?

Moreover, he was happy to be with her or wanted to be around her. Other than the fact that he had chosen to hide his recovery so that he could continue to live with her for a few more months, he paid surprise visits to her after she had moved back to Pony’s Home. In Candy Candy Final Story (CCFS), it is clear that Albert was a very busy businessman, and yet he went all the way from Chicago to Pony’s Home to visit Candy (considered that it could be a day trip for him back and forth), and not just once. Even Candy wrote to him saying that her heart was slowly getting used to his surprise visits. Hence, instead of relaxing at home during his break, he opted to spend time with Candy, which implied that he missed her a lot and keeping in touch with her in writing was not enough.

Also, Albert cared about what Candy cared about. In CCFS, he bought the land from Mr. Cartwright and paid to renovate Pony’s Home. With his vast family fortune, this was but a small amount of money, but this was not an investment because profit was minimal (if any). Rather, it was a generous giving. Often the way a man handles his money is a gauge of his affections. I won’t be surprised if he got oppositions from his aunt or others about spending money on upgrading an orphanage, but as the family head, he had the power to do what he saw fit.
