Candy’s last letter to Albert (Part 4)

Yes, Part 4 already, and this is my favorite part of the entire letter. Many thanks to my friend Antlay ❤ ❤ for choosing to show my drawing published in A hug so tight. I remember talking to my friend QuevivaCandy once about this loving embrace, that this is the official romantic scene between Candy and Albert in Candy Candy Final Story (CCFS). 🙂 This scene not only conveys their mutual affection and understanding perfectly, but also shows how much Candy trusted Albert by asking to revisit the forest where Anthony had fallen off his horse. That is, Albert’s company gave Candy the courage to face the dreadful past.

If I remember correctly, of all hugs between these two characters throughout the manga, it was Candy who always threw herself into Albert’s arms, seeking comfort from him. Of course, he was more than willing to let her do so, always ready to give her the strength that she needed. Yet, this time, as described here in the letter, she wrote that it was him who tenderly took her into his arms and let her cry as long as she wanted (so much so that she had made a mess on his fine, likely expensive, shirt 😛 ). Come to think of it, if she hadn’t felt safe in her relationship with him, she would have avoided anything that “ruined the day or mood”. After all, it was his holiday, and they had been having wonderful time together so far. However, he was the one who had offered to share her sandwich for the rest of her life, and she wasn’t afraid of sharing her troubles with him. In short, his complete acceptance and respect of her feelings enabled her to be totally herself without holding anything back from him. Sigh…

I think this is a brilliant end to CCFS. Prince on the Hill was always there to comfort Candy, starting from her first heartbreak as a six-year-old girl. He was still there for her at the end to help her, and she was able to finally break free from the guilt of her past (because they shared the same anguish). To me, he was way more than “a shoulder to cry on”. He was her soul mate, no less. ❤ ❤
