It fits Candy and Albert perfectly well, both in the manga and Candy Candy Final Story (CCFS) for at least a few reasons.
- Albert was no doubt Candy’s best friend. She told him many things that were personal to her. In CCFS she said she could tell Albert many things, even the things that she couldn’t tell Annie (her best friend from childhood).
- She was so lost without him in her life. In the manga, she cried in her sleep, missing him terribly. In CCFS, she said she had spent many uneasy and sleepless nights. All that happened after he had vanished.
- Without Albert, Candy’s life would have been dramatically different. She would have been drowned in the waterfall, sent to work in Mexico, or would never have crossed the ocean to study in London.
- Albert’s presence made Candy feel safe. Her own words in CCFS said so. “His presence gave me a marvelous feeling of security.”
