Candy Candy Ending Song
Here I attach the link to the Ending Song of the anime series of Candy Candy “I love tomorrow” (I would have used “I like tomorrow” instead, but never mind 😛 ). The lyrics were written by the author of Candy Candy, Kyoko Mizuki (her other pen name 名木田 恵子):
Back then, Mizuki used “Anohito” to refer to Candy’s Prince on the Hill mainly because Candy didn’t know his name. Anohito simply translates to “that person”.
Many thanks to the page owner of William Albert Andrew (el príncipe de la colina) for providing me the Japanese lyrics and the link to the same song but with English and Spanish translations:
So you can see that this song is about Candy and the thought of her prince from both the pictures and the words. She remembered their first encounter on Pony’s Hill, about him being gentle, the green trees/leaves rustling in the wind, on top of the hill, etc. Candy was looking forward to meeting her prince one day and that he would be calling her name or waiting for her on the same location (Pony’s Hill).
Very interestingly, this completely matches the story plot of the manga version of Candy Candy. While little Candy was crying sadly, a young teenager’s brief appearance cheered her up. After that, she missed him and wanted to see him again (not just because he was very handsome like a prince in fairy tales, but also because he was very gentle to her). In addition, the memory of this encounter stuck with her for many years to come (more than ten years). Later in her life, after being rescued by a grown up named Albert, Candy always thought of him as gentle, kind and caring, not knowing that he was actually her Prince on the Hill. At the end of the manga, Albert intentionally returned to the same spot (Pony’s Hill) to wait for her to come so that he could repeat his famous line to her “You’re prettier when you smile than when you cry”. Only then she realized that her prince had been by her side all along, supporting and loving her.
To me, this is indeed a very beautiful story. For your interest, you can read my earlier post “Candy’s memory of Prince on the Hill”.
Hello I’m Louna
I grew up with the cartoon of Candy child at the beginning I thought his prince of the hill was Anthony, then Anthony died naturally I was on the charm of Terry, adult thanks to you tube.
I could see the 115 episodes at that moment I discovered Albert I spent all these moments in review with Candy and there I saw the strong ties that united them at the end Candy discovers that the Great uncle William and then the prince of the hill she never forgot and that despite his love for Anthony and especially his love for Terry.
I read later the manga and currently Candy Final Story there again we clearly see their loves nascent in any case for Candy by their correspondences, because as far as Albert was already crazy Lovers of Candy especially during their cohabitation with The apartment of Magnolia.
I also had already listened to the lyrics of the songs and indeed it is the Prince of the hill who calls Candy in a soft voice with blond hair, Albert has always been the definitive choice of Mizuki for Candy’s lover That’s why Anthony disappears and then after Terry’s brutal separation. Candy and Albert stays together this is the original idea of the manga that is what Mizuki says in these Interviews to these Fans.
PS: Can you answer me please, I want to join your Forum and sign up and make my comment appear I read all your stories and I like very much, I also read those of Candy Bert and well Other. I also send you this message in English but I speak French.
Bonjour Louna, merci!!
So glad you want to join us, and you’re willing to share your thoughts in English. Candy Candy is really a story about Candy and her prince. Anthony and Terry were both gone, but Albert remained by her side till the end. 💞🌸
Thank you for reading my stories, and many thanks for your encouraging words!! 😘😍
Thank you so much!!! It is only now that I know the ending song has such a big clue to who is Anohito!! What a new discovery!! Thank you for dawning the readers!! Very well done!!
You’re very welcome 😃 my pleasure 😘 glad you like it 😉
Oh my, the song! I’ve never heard it for too long. I really liked this song when i was a child. Now that i know the meaning and translation, once again i repeat, never been bored to repeat it, anohito is definitely albert 🙂 it’s always been albert in mizuki’s mind! It’s always been the prince of the hill.
And now that i’ve got those beautiful pictures of albert from all the lovely fanfic writer, i cant hep but keep sighing and dreaming how romantic the whole story of candy and albert is. From the manga and then the final story.
I wonder what was in mizuki’s mind when she created albert. She must love this character so much.
And back to the song, it also made me more convinced that it’s no way for candy being miserable and mourning for the lost love for years. She’s very optimistic and open minded. She sure believe that there’s her prince waiting for her ( and then calling her “candy” … ” i love your smile and i shall never forget your smile”)
Accidentaly used different name. It’s Reeka btw. 🙂
Yes Reeka!!! I can’t agree with you more! It’s very clear that Mizuki had always had Prince on the Hill in mind, and that she created this character with love and care! To me, it is a romantic story too. They had found each other in childhood, since then, their lives had been connected.
You’re so right that it didn’t make sense that Candy would be miserable for years. In Rockstown, even though she cried for Terry again, she was more concerned about Albert. She left the theater quietly, trying to look for the man who had cared about her a lot. Sigh.
I’ve loved this song too, and it brought back many memories indeed! 😀
And the way i see the story, she cried in rockstown not because she still felt hurt about losing terry for susanna. It’s because she felt both sorry and disappointed for terry not keeping his promise to be happy. 🙂
Candy had moved on. In her mind after talking with Terry’s mother, she used past tense to refer to her love for Terry. She had cried in the tent because she had felt sorry for Terry that he had to make a painfully tough decision back then. Sigh.
I agree with you that the ending song matches the manga. However for me, it also made sense after seeing the last episode of the anime. Of course I only know the ending song in Dutch, but I’m pretty sure that is was fairly well translated.
BTW, I love the ending song. Even in Japanese. The melody and the way it is sung, is so beautiful. You can feel Candy’s longing to meet her prince from beginning to end.
It’s just beautiful, sigh ……..
Dear CKati, so is it the same melody in Dutch? It’s a beautiful song, so dreamy like a girl in love yet optimistic just like Candy! Almost like she knew she would definitely see her prince again. Sigh…
…… and she saw her very handsome sweet, gentle prince again. Like you, I really love this story.
I could read the manga all over again and it wouldn’t bore me one bit. Of course, that is if I had the time LOL
CKati dear, you made me laugh! I know, I can read some parts of the manga over and over! LOL 😀
