“Afternoon Nap” in Korean!
It is my great pleasure to introduce to you a Candy Candy fan from Korea, 이수진 (pronounced as Lee Su Jin). She approached me a short while ago and expressed her interest to translate my stories. The main reason is that she wants to let other Korean fans learn more about the manga, the original story of Candy Candy. I totally agree with her that the well known anime version didn’t do Albert justice. Of course, it’s my honor to give her my permission. Her first project is “Afternoon Nap”, and it will be titled using a Korean word 낮잠 (pronounced as Nat Jam).
Sujin said she “really enjoyed every weekend reading Ms Puddle’s writings and decided to start on translating them into her own language to express her thanks to the writer with some other reasons mentioned above.” This is a huge compliment to me indeed! 😀 😀
As some of you know, the story “Afternoon Nap” is based on the following manga scene (picture taken from the Korean manga version). The smile on Candy’s face tells us she was happy and content sitting right beside Albert, even though he was taking a nap while she was working on her long flower chain. The original Japanese version is actually shown the other way (flipped sideways), with Albert on the left and Candy on the right. Sujin wants me to color this particular scene, so I will post her work as soon as I finish coloring this.
수진: 대단히 감사합니다 (Sujin, thank you very much)!

A bientôt.
Have fun, my friend!! Enjoy your time 😀
Good morning Ms Puddle
J’aime aussi beaucoup cette scène du manga et encore plus avec de la couleur. Ils forment un très beau couple en effet. Ravie que vos histoires soient traduites dans plusieurs langues, vous le méritez tellement. Vous allez rendre jalouse Mizuki ! Lol 😉
Bonjour Antlay!! You’re back? Had a great time? 🙂
This is one of my favorite scenes in the manga for sure, and their harmony was unquestionable!
You must be kidding! 😀 I can’t measure up to Mizuki. She’s a talented author in my opinion.
Hi Ms Puddle! Aren’t we going international! 😉 Just want to say ‘hi’! Congrats on your expanding readership 🙂
Oh hello there!! It’s been a long while, alexandrite! Thank you for your kind words, and thanks for dropping by 😉
Congratulations dear Ms Puddle!
I think it is even better to read your stories in our mother language, because we can appreciate deeper the meaning of the emotions and thoughts.
Your work and effort is reaching the Candy fans around the world! You are one of my favorite writers and I gladly confirm that I am not the only one to consider you that way! LOL
KEEP the good work my friend!
And last but not the least, thanks to Lee Su Jin for joining the translators club!
Hugs and kisses!
Thank you very much for your encouraging words, dear SweetCandyAndley!! Once again, it’s my great honor you wonderful ladies are so kind to spend your precious time on translating my works, and I really can’t appreciate you all enough. Hugs and kisses to you too, my friend! 😀
Wow!!!! You know? About 3 weeks ago a girl shared your stories in an Albert group in FB, She said you are the only one writer whose all works has been translated to other languages. Why, I wonder myself? lol… I always have told you so, you are a great great writer.
Congrats! You deserve it!
Blushing blushing!!!! No I’m not really that great, but all you wonderful ladies, dear QuevivaCandy, have been extremely nice to me. Your willingness to spend your time and effort to translate my stories is more than a huge compliment to me!! 😀
Dear Ms Puddle,
It certainly is a well deserved compliment. More people are able to enjoy your stories thanks to people like Sujin.
As you said, even if you don’t know the story, just by looking at this scene will make you think they’re a couple.
Candy looks content indeed.
Thanks, CKati, for your kind words!! When Sujin contacted me, I was very touched by her sincerity indeed!
Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words, and this one in particular. Igarashi did an excellent job I must say! 🙂
I guess Candy always called him with “Albert-san” because she knows he is older than she is. The original langauge consider the age of counterpart significant and differ the calling by adding some, regardless of the intimacy. And that’s the way written in Korea where we use a language showing many similarities with Japanese. There’s a distinction between meaning of ‘Mr.’ and ‘-san’ hence it’d better let her call him Albert in English but not in Japanese it’s so awkward and even rude.
Anyway, so happy to see one of my favorite scenes here. I feel they were already like a married couple at this moment.. love it.
It’s my first comment at yours isn’t it? 🙂
I just wanted to talk about ‘-san’ which was pretty intriguing to me comparing Japanese korean and English.
Thanks, Passion! 🙂 Glad to read from you with perspectives from Korea. I think “Albert-san” baffles lots of people, especially those who don’t understand the culture. Translation is particularly hard when normally “-San” means “Mr.” Or “Miss”, etc.
About this scene, yes, Candy and Albert appeared so content and relaxed around each other. They were like a couple indeed. 😀
I love this scene, Ms Puddle! I am able to see more details in color that I had missed in the black and while version. Thank you for sharing! Have a nice weekend! Continue feeling better and better…
You’re so kind, Evelyn! My energy level is back up now, so thank you! Yes, with colors added, this scene is actually romantic. If people had no idea of the story, by looking at the picture alone people would have thought Albert and Candy were a couple, don’t you think? 😉
Yes, you are right! It does look like they are a couple. So content and relaxed around each other.
I love how Candy looks so happy making her flower chain wrapping it all around Albert. This says a lot! She could have just piled it in front of her until she was done with it. Is a very romantic gesture to do that. You don’t see that side of her too much in the story!! Is almost like she wants to surprise him when he wakes up!! 😉
Exactly!! You read my mind, Evelyn! A picture is worth a thousand words indeed. Albert and Candy enjoyed each other’s presence, and they could relax around each other, doing whatever they liked. 😉
Do you know what you said was exactly in my story? LOL… Too bad this scene is NOT in the anime at all :'(
This and many other meaningful scenes were not used in the anime. Many Candy fans would have a much different and deeper understanding of this story and of the character of Albert had they just read the manga and contrasted it to the anime. I prefer the manga by far. 🙂
Yes I read your story “Siesta Vespertina” in Spanish. Loved it and that is exactly what I think happened 😉
I can’t agree with you more, Evelyn, about the difference between the manga and the anime. Regrettably, I was told that many haven’t even heard of the manga, and some simply refused to read it. Sigh.
Thanks for reading my story, and glad you like it!! 😀
My favorite scene. Are you going to color that scene from a manga? I can hardly wait! A good weekend to you, dear. *kisses*
Yes, CAW! One of my favorite scenes too! Thank you for your encouraging words, and you have wonderful weekend too! 🙂 😀
Congratulations! Afternoon nap is one of my favorite stories. Bring old memories of my foray to Candy – world. Glad you talent to expand and reach more people.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Have a nice weekend!
