Hello again! I’m happy to read about your new job position. Just make sure you also find quality time. But I know that’s easier said than done, I’m afraid.
You needn’t worry about the word-length of this chapter nor for any typos. Based on what I’ve read so far, I haven’t found any errors. Even if there are any which may have escaped notice, you could always edit and re-edit your work. It’s common practice for all writers.
With that being said, what matters is the content of your work and I must say that it’s remarkable. The plot you’ve created surrounding new characters adds further to the complicated relationship between Candy and Albert. You’ve found a niche with regard to Kim’s character and her role is significant in your fanfic. I wonder why Nagita did not write more about her and her relationship with Albert. Perhaps she was concerned with the word-limitations imposed on her from her publishers. She did mention in the past about this issue so it could be regarded as a contributing factor. Who knows?

    • Lakewood says:

P.S. Please make sure you watermark your fanart because it’s widely used online-in particular, on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. It’s great that so many people appreciate your work but just make sure the watermark is pronounced.

    • Ms Puddle says:

Thank you @Lakewood for your kind words and encouragement ☺️ Yes, quality time is important to us all, but you’re right it’s easier said than done.

What a delight to hear that you enjoy my fanfic so far and like my original characters. 🤗 About why Nagita sensei did not write much about that American nurse, I guess only the author knows, but I don’t mind. If the author could have written more, I wish she would write more about Patty or even better, how Candy and Anohito overcome their obstacles and get married, etc.

      • Lakewood says:

I agree with you. If I correctly recall, Keiko Nagita had also written more about George and his unrequited love for Albert’s sister, Rosemary. This was in the old novel, right?

        • Ms Puddle says:

Yes, Lakewood. I read about that too in one of the snippets concerning the old novel. Albert wrote to Candy and told her he just knew it without talking to Georges, something like that.

Other than this, Nagita sensei also removed Rosemary’s elopement if I remember correctly.

          • Lakewood says:

I don’t recall about the elopement being mentioned but didn’t the author include the info about Rosemary being a headstrong and dynamic woman in spite of her elegant and seemingly delicate frame? I think this is described in the Epilogue in the correspondence between Candy and Albert or in Candy’s ‘mental’ letter to Anthony. I’ll have to check out the book again..

            • Ms Puddle says:

Sorry @Lakewood I should have been clearer. The elopement was in the old novel but was removed in CCFS. Albert told Candy in his letter about Georges helping Rosemary and Vincent elope.

  2. Anita says:

Hi! I’m glad to have received notification of the latest development of your latest fanfic. It seems to be fascinating. You’re such a talented writer!

How’s your new job going? Are you pleased with your new position?

    Talk to you again soon!

    • Ms Puddle says:

Thank you @Michelle! Glad you found it fascinating, but no I’m not that talented… I’m just very motivated because you’re all so kind and encouraging 💪🤗

Thank God I like my new job so far, but I need to be more patient with myself when I have to learn a lot every day. It’s like I’m constantly trying to catch up. 😅

      Take care and stay safe!

      • Michelle says:

Pleased to know that you’re enjoying your new job. It’s better to learn and acquire new knowledge than to be stuck in a rut due to a boring and repetitive job.😊

        • Ms Puddle says:

Right on, @Michelle. I totally agree with you. ☺️ Thanks again for your kind words!

          • Michelle says:

Just make sure you get plenty of rest as well as prioritize healthy and safety, both of which are of quintessential importance these days.

  5. DreamCatcher says:

Hi there! Hope you are fine and doing well with your new job. You don’t have to be concerned about the length or any typos because this chapter was awesome. Candy seems to have more depth-of-character in your fanfic and she appears to be more mature and self-aware.
    Best wishes and thanks! 😍😻💟

    • Ms Puddle says:

Hello @DreamCatcher, thank you for your kind words. I’m still ramping up (onboarding) but my team members are all understanding. 🙏

Your encouraging feedback to my fanfic is much appreciated, and I’m happy you don’t mind me changing Candy a bit (hopefully not too much).

Best wishes to you too 💗

      • DreamCatcher says:

On the contrary, the changes you’ve made are very creative and enhance Candy’s character. Let’s face it, that naïve and gullible “happy-pants” version of Candy which used to be so popular in some countries back in the 1970s and 1980s has become way too cheesy and outdated. It’s a shame that Nagita stuck to that antiquated version of Candy in her novel which really has no place in our modern era apart from mockery, parody and satire.

        • Ms Puddle says:

Thanks @DreamCatcher for your encouraging feedback 🤗, but in the story, whether manga/anime or the novels, there were times Candy was sad or crying too. She just appeared strong in front of her friends, including Terry. She was willing to show her vulnerable side to Albert only, IMHO. 😉

          • DreamCatcher says:

I agree with you but, unfortunately, Nagita fails to manifest any form of Candy’s intricate character in her novel. Candy’s multifaceted character could be discerned in the anime and, in particular, the manga but not in the novel.

            • DreamCatcher says:

Nevertheless, you’re spot on when referring to the significance of the relationship between Candy and Albert which predominates in the novel as well as in the manga and anime. It was apparent that their relationship was progressing into another level moving away from friendship and entering a romantic bond between prospective lovers.

              • Ms Puddle says:

I agree with you @DreamCatcher about Candy and Albert’s relationship, especially in the novel. The epilogue leaves no doubt that something was going on between the two. As you said, they were progressing into another level 💗💞

            • Ms Puddle says:

@DreamCatcher, interestingly many readers find Candy in her thirties in CCFS exhibit more melancholic mood than expected. Some even wonder if she was pregnant, but most believe she was affected by her worries for Miss Pony’s health.

              • DreamCatcher says:

Candy’s melancholic mood does not necessarily equate to demonstrating a deeper and more enriched character. On the contrary, this novel is riddled with melodrama and loads of cheesiness. Not that the anime and manga are devoid of melodrama (the opposite, actually), however, the character development and amazing visuals managed to balance this otherwise rather nauseating cheesiness.

In the anime and manga, we get to enjoy the development of the other supporting characters as well such as Stear, Archie, Fran Hamilton, etc. Yet, those characters are simple mentions or with a crippled character development. Even Terry becomes nothing more than a mere mention after the end of section two of the novel. In the anime and manga, Terry had a narrative voice and immense character development, both of which are not only trimmed but truncated in the novel. On the other hand, Albert’s character is much more enhanced and enriched in the novel, hence, understanding the reason why the Albert-fans would be quite pleased in this respect. Even though Albert’s character is far more significant and profound in the novel, it still cannot eliminate the fact that this novel is nothing more than a mere summary of the overall story of Candy White.

It seems that the ridiculous controversy surrounding the identity of Candy’s lover has superimposed far more vital aspects this novel truly lacks. It’s not unusual that this novel has failed to achieve even a fraction of the success and widespread appeal of the anime and manga.

I’ve also read online from various fan pages that Keiko Nagita had mentioned she enjoys this controversy which has been infesting the CC community. Is this true? Has she actually said something so rotten? I hope not.. If she has, then she’s the lowest of the low. I honestly hope that her words were simply taken out of context as is usually the case with these various fan pages. Do you know anything about this? I would like to know your thoughts about this, Ms Puddle. Thank you.

                • Ms Puddle says:

You’re right, @DreamCatcher. I see your points. The epistolary style in CCFS section 3 is not ideal for this story, and it seems that Terry is no longer important. However, if I remember correctly, this is the case in the old novel as well. That is, Terry was indeed “out of the picture” after the breakup. In fact, Candy’s unsent letter to Terry is shortened and less emotional in CCFS when compared to the old novel. Even Candy’s retrospective about him and Susanna talked more about facts than feelings.

No I haven’t heard about Nagita’s remark about the controversy. Like you, I hope this is not the case. -_-

                • DreamCatcher says:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and responding to my queries, Ms Puddle.

It’s beyond any shadow of a doubt that all of the characters of Nagita’s novel are important to her but it’s obvious that she’s singled out Candy as the central character and provided utmost significance to Albert, the latter having been enhanced and developed even further in terms of elevated character. Such are the techniques usually deployed by writers when intending on demonstrating which characters are most important and dear to them. Whilst in the anime, the TOEI producers were intent on amplifying Terry’s character, the actual writer and legit author of Candy White changed-if not completely overturned-all that and placed Candy and Albert onto the ‘proscenium’.

As regards the old novel, I have no access to it so I can’t express my opinion. Thank you again though for generously offering insight into it by comparing it with the new novel.

                • Ms Puddle says:

Well said, @DreamCatcher! Indeed I feel that Nagita sensei not only reduced Terry’s significance in her novel but also elevated Albert’s character and his influence in Candy’s life. An epilogue usually gives readers a glimpse of the main characters’ future, and in CCFS it’s crystal clear who the main characters are. ☺️

                • Anita says:

Hello, I’ll add that there are very few differences between the older versions of this novel and the new one as published in 2010 (Japan). There are some minor additions and very few alterations (in style and diction). The differences between the older and newest versions are less than 10 per cent. Moreover, some of the older versions included Igarashi’s illustrations but they were omitted in subsequent editions following the legal verdict concerning copyright infringement and other issues between Igarashi and Nagita.

                • Ms Puddle says:

Hello @Anita, you’re right about some versions of the old novels showing Igarashi’s illustrations.

I have only read some snippets of the old novel, but from what I read the writing styles and some letters are actually quite different. For example, Candy’s letters to Anthony and his father. To me, I like her letter to Anthony in CCFS a lot more.

Also, in CCFS, Candy invited Captain Brown to visit them at Ardlay’s mansions 😉 whereas in the old novel only to the orphanage. Also, compared to her letter to Captain Brown in the old novel, Candy’s writing is way more casual in CCFS, like she’s his “peers” 😉. The difference is unfortunately lost in translation. 🙁

                • Anita says:

                  Thanks for information, Anita.🙏

                • Anita says:

Apologies, meant to say thank you for the information, Ms Puddle!😂

  6. Elena says:

Beautiful chapter with such well-rounded characters. Ms Puddle, you have done such fine work in forming the narrative to your superb fanfiction. I’m awaiting the next chapters with anticipation.

    Take care and stay safe!

    • Ms Puddle says:

Hello @Elena! What a delight to hear that you think the characters are well-rounded 😍 Your positive feedback is greatly appreciated. You take care and stay safe too 🤗

      • Elena says:

Candy and Albert are such a lovely couple and your stories surrounding the depth of their beautiful relationship is always a pleasure to read. Thank you again!

        • Ms Puddle says:

Awww… Thank you @Elena! I agree with you 💯 that Candy and Albert are such a lovely couple 💓

          • Elena says:

Candy and Albert are such a beautiful and rebellious couple which could be considered as modern even during our own contemporary times. There is nothing conventional or nondescript about them and that makes them even more fascinating!

            • Ms Puddle says:

You’re right, @Elena. I’ve never thought about that! Candy and Albert’s story could have happened in the modern era 😊

              • Elena says:

It’s true that the story of Candy and Albert is very appealing and that’s the reason why younger people have become so drawn to it.

                • Elena says:

Come to think of it, it’s not surprising that Keiko Nagita devoted so much time to the ways in which Candy and Albert’s bond deepened but also how they matured and developed as characters on an individual level. Your fanfiction also does an amazing job in highlighting this most significant aspect of Nagita’s novel.

                • Ms Puddle says:

Agree with you about the novel, Elena. Initially I was upset about Anohito being ambiguous but after reading section 3 and the Epilogue I felt better. 😉

Thank you for your encouraging feedback to my fanfic 🤗

                • Ms Puddle says:

Yes Elena I feel that Albert is more popular than before as well 🥰

                • Elena says:

I see your point but what matters are not those miserable people who get involved in petty disputes but the indisputable fact that Keiko Nagita placed Candy and Albert as the most significant characters in her novel. No matter how much some people whine about that, the author has made her decision and it’s final.

                • Ms Puddle says:

Yes indeed, @Elena! The fans can argue all they want about the significance of Susanna’s death and Terry’s ambiguous letter after that, but the author’s indisputable decision to make Albert play an even more important role in Candy’s adult life speaks volumes. 😉

              • Myra says:

                Well said!

  7. Corinne MESSEANT says:

C est toujours un plaisir de lire un nouveau chapitre aussi palpitant…j ai adoré 😍 je vous souhaite pleins de belles choses pour votre nouveau travail et prenez soin de vous bonne soirée 😊

    • Ms Puddle says:

      Bonjour @Corinne MESSEANT , merci beaucoup ❣️

I’m happy to hear that you like the new chapter, and thanks for your kind words to my job. You take care too, my friend! 🤗

  8. Fay says:

Another long, fascinating chapter. The plot is getting more and more intriguing. Thank you, @Ms. Puddle, for devoting so much of your time in this beautiful story. I hope your new job is not too demanding, and you can find enough quality time for yourself and your loved ones. I agree with you that we can’t be too careful about the pandemic since it’s not over yet. It’s frustrating to see how many people have become to relax (including my country). Take care too, and stay safe.

    • Fay says:

      Edit: have begun to relax.

    • Ms Puddle says:

Thank you @Fay for your continued support and positive feedback ❣️ My new job is not too demanding, at least not yet, but I feel like working longer hours because I want to ramp up.

About the pandemic, it’s still not as relaxed as I thought it would be, because, thankfully, in many places they still required visitors to wear masks, although this is not imposed by the government anymore.

      You take care too!

    • Myra says:

      Hello Ms Puddle and Fay,

I agree with you about the untimely loosening of restrictions during the global pandemic. However, the psychological in tandem with political and especially financial factors ought to be taken into serious consideration because these restrictions and lockdowns have taken a heavy toll on the well-being of the populace.

I’m also from Greece as Fay is (I live in Northern Athens) and people are fed up with being locked up. Needless to mention that the government has done a lousy job in maintaining peace and prosperity culminating with the political ineptitude in supporting public healthcare. Instead of lockdowns, the government should have focused on reinforcing public hospitals by recruiting more doctors, nurses, and by incorporating the required number of intensive healthcare units in major cities and the periphery. I’ll be unapologetically blunt about this and state that this current government in Greece is a sordid cesspit which only cares about sucking up to the rich and dismantling the public sector, hence, decapitating the quality of life and welfare of hard-working Greek citizens. It’s truly appalling.

Whether we like it or not, we will all have to learn to live with this pandemic but what is required is not another lockdown or series of restrictions but a solid healthcare system accessible to everyone regardless of one’s financial or socio-political background.

      • Ms Puddle says:

I can feel your frustrations, @Myra, and here, the restrictions and lockdowns have indeed taken a heavy toll on many small businesses and restaurants. Some of those in my neighborhood had to shut down due to the pandemic.

It’s true that it seems like COVID is here to stay. We have to live with it. Many people regard it as bad flu.

Have you heard that they are talking about second booster? Sigh…

        • Myra says:

Yeah, they’re trying to market it in Greece too but the greatest majority of people are fed up with the current corrupt government and its incessant sleaziness. Not too many people have taken the third jab and I seriously doubt people will be willing to go for a fourth, especially those under 50 years of age.

          • Lynn says:

That’s true.. It appears that the 4th dose (aka additional booster shot) will probably be recommended for the older folks over 50-60. Besides, they are the ones at a much higher risk of getting severely ill or even die due to COVID-19.

            • Lakewood says:

Based on the volatile and unpredictable development of COVID-19 and its variants, it’s virtually impossible to fathom how many booster shots will be deemed necessary. Age and health will play crucial factors but time will tell whether they’ll constitute exclusive factors as not even scientists and researchers cannot be certain how more severe or milder subsequent variants will be. This global pandemic has got us all hurled into unchartered territory.

              • Lakewood says:

Typo – “..as not even scientists and researchers can be certain..”

              • Ms Puddle says:

Concerning COVID and its variants, I couldn’t agree with you more, Lakewood. Let’s wait and see.

                • Lakewood says:

Let’s hope more people will get vaccinated and continue to maintain the required measures regarding social distancing and hygiene. It’s a matter of common sense and rationale.

                • Ms Puddle says:

Unfortunately some people seem to behave as though the pandemic is over. We are seeing a resurgence across the country, representing a sixth wave. 🙁

                • Lakewood says:

The problem with some people is that they only selectively accept (aka “cherry-pick”) what scientists state depending on what is convenient for them and their “echo-chambers”.

                • Ms Puddle says:

Sigh… This is unfortunately true to many people, Lakewood 😑

          • Myra says:

It appears that these jabs are not the panacea but simply a band-aid to an incessantly gaping wound being this global pandemic. Let’s see if the new medication regarding COVID-19 will abate the spread and severity of this virus.

  9. Aurora says:

Amidst these chaotic times, it’s always a pleasure receiving updates surrounding your contributions. Your fanfiction is just as remarkable as your fanart. I’m looking forward to reading the chapters which follow to your new story about Candy and Albert.

    Kind Regards

  10. Lynn says:

    Hello Ms Puddle,

Fascinating chapter! Can’t wait what happens next.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Ms Puddle says:

Thank you @Lynn for reading! Glad you like the update 🤗

      • Lynn says:

Are you planning to add more of your illustrations?

        • Myra says:

My question too.. Would love to see more of Ms Puddle’s fanart. Hopefully, there will be some most needed free-time for it.

          • Ms Puddle says:

Thanks @Lynn and @Myra for your interest. 🤗☺️ I do want to draw again but not sure when.

            • Lynn says:

Perfectly understand, Ms Puddle. Whenever convenient for you. Tough times are ahead and it’s getting more and more difficult for all of us in terms of keeping up with our jobs as well as trying to devote some space for our beloved hobbies.

            • Myra says:

I’ll second that. It goes without saying that there’s no pressure. Your contributions are always a warm welcome, especially when that’s convenient for you timewise.😊

              • Ms Puddle says:

Thank you @Lynn and @Myra for your understanding 🤗

                • Lynn says:

We should thank you for taking the time to offer us your beautiful stories and artwork.

Btw, I’ve been meaning to ask you sth regarding the CCFS novel. It has to do with Patty and her reaction to Stear’s untimely death. In the manga, she had attempted to commit suicide but I can’t remember if this was mentioned in the novel too. Do you remember? I’ll try checking out my sources once I get the chance.

Thank you again for your time and your contributions.

                • Ms Puddle says:

Thanks @Lynn for your kind words!

I double checked the novel and the answer is yes. In Patty’s letter to Candy she mentioned Candy had slapped her through tears, and Candy had seriously hit her so hard that Patty said it hurt. Right after that Patty wrote that she thought about following Stear (i.e. suicide).

                  Hope this helps 🙂

                • Lynn says:

Thank you, Ms Puddle, for getting back to me. I appreciate that!

                • Ms Puddle says:

You’re welcome, @Lynn. That part of the manga was well done, kudos to Igarashi 💯

                • Lynn says:

                  Agreed!

                • Myra says:

No worries @Ms Puddle. We’re all on the same boat when it comes to workload and limited free-time. As mentioned previously, there’s no pressure.

                • Ms Puddle says:

So true, @Myra. Thanks for your support and encouragement ☺️🤗

I would like to hear from you!
